The Shepherd and the Wounded Heart

When the soul is wounded, it needs care just the same as a wounded body. I’m learning this deeply. Jonathan has a large physical wounds from this, but my soul has invisible wounds. It needs care just like a broken down body. It needs rest and things that will do it good. A wounded soul needs the medicine of the Truth, for nothing brings comfort and healing like God’s Word. It needs quiet and stillness to heal. Most of all it needs the care of the Good Shepherd, the only one who can bring true healing. He is gentle and compassionate. He promises to comfort the weak and needy. I need to submit myself to His process, to less, to quiet, to His presence, to worship, to resting in Him and turning away from anything that would hinder my soul from knowing the presence of the One I need most. I am needy but that is not something to run from, for my Good Shepherd loves to care for me. He has work to do in me. He loves me, so in the broken places He purges away the loves for lesser things. He is faithful to restore when this life has broken me…in His time, His way. I can trust in Him.

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew‬ ‭11‬:‭28‬-‭30‬

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” Psalms‬ ‭23‬:‭1‬-‭4

“God blesses those who are poor in spirit and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬-‭4‬
